Former Goaltender Honored for his Outstanding Career

Kiprusoff to Join Elite Group of Flames Legends

The Calgary Flames announced last week that they will retire the No. 34 in honor of former goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff. The 47-year-old Finnish native played 11 seasons with the Flames, leading them to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004.

Kiprusoff was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Sharks in 1999 and played three seasons with the team before being traded to the Flames in 2003.

In Calgary, Kiprusoff quickly established himself as one of the top goaltenders in the league. He won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goaltender in 2006 and 2007 and was a finalist for the award in 2004 and 2009. He also helped the Flames win the Presidents' Trophy in 2006 and reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004.

Kiprusoff retired from the NHL in 2013 after 12 seasons. He finished his career with a 319-260-96 record, a 2.54 GAA, and a .910 save percentage. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022.
