Netanyahu Overtakes Churchill as Most Invited Foreign Leader to Address Congress

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Netanyahu's Speech and Address History

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel on Wednesday addressed a joint meeting of Congress at the US Capitol. This marks Netanyahu's 12th address to Congress, surpassing the late British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who addressed Congress 11 times during World War II.

In his speech, Netanyahu urged the United States to take a tougher stance against Iran's nuclear program, saying that "the only way to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon is to stop them now." He also called for increased cooperation between the United States and Israel on security and intelligence matters.

Netanyahu's speech was met with mixed reactions from members of Congress. Some lawmakers praised Netanyahu's strong stance against Iran, while others criticized his hawkish approach. Several Democratic lawmakers boycotted the speech, citing Netanyahu's opposition to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
