Bush trails in Missouri Democratic primary
Poll shows Bell with 22-point lead
Cori Bush, a member of the "Squad" of progressive Democrats in the House of Representatives, is trailing her primary challenger in Missouri, according to a new poll.
The poll, conducted by GOP firm Remington Research, found that Bush is losing to Wesley Bell by 22 points, 56% to 34%. The poll was conducted from July 11-13 among 500 likely Democratic primary voters and has a margin of error of +/- 4.4%.
Bell is a former St. Louis County prosecutor who has criticized Bush for her support of the "defund the police" movement. Bush has defended her record, saying that she supports "reimagining" the police department, not defunding it.
The Democratic primary in Missouri's 1st Congressional District is scheduled for August 2. The winner of the primary will face Republican nominee Jason Smith in the general election.
